Finding Answers in Traditions and Science
The 2009 Latino Nutrition Coalition Conference will focus on the growing diabetes epidemic in the Latino community. The Conference will explore this issue and expand on how tradition and culture as well as nutrition and behavioral science can play key roles in finding answers to this epidemic.
This conference, titled "Roots and Reality of Latino Diabetes: Finding Answers in Traditions and Science" will include presentations on diabetes myths and attitudes in the Latino community; effective communications; ways that food and drink companies can be part of the solution; and the unveiling of the Latino Nutrition Coalition's next major initiative in support of Latino health. This much-anticipated event will feature Oldways' trademark mix of influential scientists, health professionals, chefs and media.
Who should attend a Latino Nutrition Coalition conference?
Our conference highlights successes in the move to increased understanding of the health needs of the Latino community– and to expose and demolish the remaining barriers to successful communication of health and nutrition messages.
The conference is designed for key influencers whose better understanding of the Latino community can affect hundreds, thousands, or millions of lives such as:
Government leaders, for perspective on education initiatives and health policies
Marketing executives, for insight into innovative and successful promotions geared towards the Latino community
Health professionals, to learn what motivates consumers to change their food choices and to earn CPE hours
Top-level journalists, for the details they need to write better stories on an important consumer issue
Support the Latino community - be a Conference Sponsor!
There's no such thing as a free (Latino!) lunch. A good conference costs money to organize, and we appreciate help from companies and organizations who want to partner with us to promote the health of the Latino community.
